Transparent scoring, data lineage, and ROI assumptions.

Data source

All 2,611 sites are mapped from ECCC open methane reporting: 2,588 carry a reported CH₄ figure and 675 are high-confidence and emission-bearing. We only use the word "verified" for that high-confidence set, never the whole file. Stats regenerate on every build via generate-live-stats.js.

Stranded Score™ v3

Log-scaled emission is the primary driver. When ECCC does not publish grid distance or internet type, we infer proxies from source category (landfill, oil & gas, power, etc.), province infrastructure, emission tier, data confidence, and reporting year. Scores span ~22–96 with meaningful elite (≥85) and high (≥65) tiers. Percentile badges compare each site to the full Canadian dataset.

Map markers and badges use the same thresholds everywhere (home, sites browser, command palette, map).

ROI model

Advanced ROI applies H₂S derate, seasonal uptime by province, gas treatment, carbon credits, CETA-style incentives, fleet decline, and halving-adjusted BTC revenue. See Education for genset specs. Site panel shows a sensitivity tornado and peer cohort when available.

Gas → power: one shared fuel budget

A site's reported methane is a screening input, not a measured recoverable fuel supply. Gas-equivalent power is calculated as:

kg CH₄/day ÷ 0.717              = Nm³/day
Nm³/day ÷ genset Nm³/hour       = aggregate genset-hours/day
genset-hours × rated kW × derate = kWh/day
kWh/day ÷ 24                    = average electrical kW

Method correction: daily energy must be divided by 24 to obtain average power. Aggregate genset-hours can exceed 24 across multiple machines; an earlier explanation incorrectly called this impossible. Gas-equivalent fleet potential is not the capacity of one installed machine.

The builder allocates one site-wide methane budget to the installed fleet. Mixed fleets dispatch the highest rated electrical kW per Nm³/hour first (model ID breaks ties), up to each unit's rated power × 0.9 derate. Extra generators add installed capacity, never extra gas. This assumes continuous part-load conversion with constant efficiency; minimum loads, gas treatment, collection losses and start-up behaviour require engineering validation.

Templates retain the equipment counts shown on their cards; preview and Apply use the same configuration. ASIC load is limited to supported whole machines, including overclock draw. Gas not converted is reported separately from spare installed conversion capacity. Neither is evidence of venting: a landfill's unknown flare, capture and vent split cannot establish avoided emissions, carbon credits or a financial baseline. These are screening scenarios, not bankable designs.

Hashprice — two honest ends

Daily mining revenue is driven by hashprice: what 1 TH/s earns per day. We show both ends instead of claiming one.

Formula: networkDerived = dailyBtcIssuance ÷ networkHashrate. The numbers in the site panel recompute when you edit those two inputs; this page shows the shipped @/lib/fleet-model.ts defaults.
