How much bitcoin are we missing?
Large facilities in Canada report their methane to the federal government. The biggest reports hold most of the gas. Take the top of that gas, pick a real mining machine, and see what it would earn if the gas made electricity instead of leaving the site.
The bar does not cut a site in half. It keeps adding the next-biggest report until the share is reached, so the real share can be a little over the number you picked.

Source: Environment and Climate Change Canada, Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program Electricity uses the same generator rule as each site card: a Jenbacher-class engine at 90% of its listed power, averaged over the day, because the report is a daily amount. Bitcoin is gross earnings at the network rate above. It is not profit, and it is not the higher optimistic rate on older payback cards. Reported methane is not a pipe already built.

The Problem
Stranded methane is natural gas that is uneconomical to capture and transport through pipelines. It is routinely vented or flared. Methane's global warming potential is ~28× CO₂ over 100 years and ~80× over 20 years (IPCC AR5).
Capturing landfill gas and burning it in a genset converts CH₄ to CO₂ — so it still emits a greenhouse gas. The defensible claim, for an operator who already flares: flaring already destroys methane but earns nothing; mining monetises the same destruction — roughly 28–80× lower warming impact per molecule than venting, with zero additional load on the electrical grid.
Canada has thousands of these sites. The data is public. The technology exists today.
